Wayne Township Shares Fellowship and Awareness for International Overdose Awareness Day

Community members were invited to attend an event of hope and fellowship.

Wayne, NJ, September 04, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Wayne residents shared a celebration of life and candle vigil for those lost during International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31, 2019 [Photos and videos are available at Facebook: www.facebook.com/waynealliance]

Councilwoman Aileen Rivera read a beautiful citation from Assemblymen Rooney and Dephilipps, Senator Corrado and Donna Andelora shared another from Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill.

With encouragement from speakers like Passaic County Freeholder Director John Bartlett, Mayor Vergano and Det. Sgt. Jay Celentano you would think enough would be said about what needs to be done to comfort those who lost a loved one and hope for those who continue to struggle with substance use.

However, also very moving were the testimonies from the Wayne Alliance members who shared their stories about how they are working to heal by bringing awareness so other families can be spared their grief.

Susan Schmidt who lost her daughter Alyssa, brought her son Andrew to work together for the second year to prepare an emotional event.

Nancy Lindstrom talked about the Vision to Achieve organization she and her husband started to honor their son and foster positive vocations.

Donna Andelora read the names of those we honored while everyone raised their candles and listened to her story of starting her own support group at a time when there was very little support for parents who lost a child.

Carol Cooper shared about her son Brian and her work to help others find recovery assistance.

All shared this year's message of hope through music donated by Element Entertainment and prayer led by Pastor Jordan Diaz from Calvary Temple.

The fact that it was the Labor Day holiday did not deter attendance of over 100 supporters, volunteers and family members.

Once again reminding us that addiction knows no boundaries and our greatest hope is learning through sharing awareness, speaking out against stigma and standing together to eliminate overdoses here in NJ and Internationally.
