Stamford, CT, September 07, 2019 --(PR.com)-- World Affairs Forum (WAF) launches its 2019- 2020 season with a dinner event at the Stamford Yacht Club entitled “Searching for Peace in Afghanistan” presented by Former Ambassador of Afghanistan to France and to Canada, Omar Samad on Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 6:30-9:00pm.

"According to thebalance.com, the effort toward peace in Afghanistan has cost Americans over $975 billion thus far. To put that in perspective, our entire defense budget for one year is about $600 billion plus another $100 – $200 billion for contingency operations. Our US education budget in 2015- 2016 was $706 billion. When we think about the cost of war, it is important that we understand its purpose and impact, no matter where we stand politically," says Wendy Skratt, Executive Director. "We are very fortunate that Amb. Samad will be visiting Stamford to share his unique perspective on the state of U.S. and Taliban peace talks, and their effect on creating a more stable Afghanistan."

Their Fall/Winter schedule also includes a discussion with US Congressman Jim Himes and Jack Leslie, Chairman of global public relations firm, Weber Shandwick, on the state of US Foreign Policy. In late October, they will host an exploration of the spread of extremism with author Farah Pandith and moderator Dr. Lori Esposito Murray.

“Exposure to well-informed and thought-provoking ideas on any topic can expand perspectives that can be carried into other areas of life,” says Skratt. “That’s why we welcome the entire community to our events, residents, working professionals, business owners and students, even if you think you know nothing about world affairs. We can help with that.”
