Düsseldorf, Germany, October 17, 2019 --(PR.com)-- ENTOTRUST, the insect food certification, celebrates the first year of activity, defining the global insect food assessment for safety and sustainability in the growing edible insects sector. The ENTOTRUST seal on product packaging is achieved by manufacturers and insect farmers that successfully passed the assessment program.

It all started with the passion for high quality food of the founders, experts and sustainability ambassadors. They realized that the key aspects of consumer safety and environmental impacts must always be in focus in the rising demand and offer of alternative sources of proteins. Who is valuing conscious producers? Who is informing the consumers? There was a need to create an independent organization and a network of stakeholders to promote good practices.

Insect food sector is steadily growing, many farmers and manufactures are entering the market, start-up, small and sizeable players. Besides the narrative of lower impact protein sources, and self-reference statements, the ENTOTRUST certification confirms that in food there are no compromises on quality, and sustainability can be measured.

In this year of activity the team was engaged to assess producers and farmers from France, China, Mexico, Denmark, Canada, South Korea, Burkina, United Kingdom, Madagascar... from beverages to dried insects, from protein powders to crackers, based on diverse insect species.

The value for the food manufacturer is to have a scientific third-party recognition of the know-how, food safety and low environmental footprint that can be communicated on product packaging, facing the consumers. This constitutes transparency and differentiation, which builds loyalty and brand value.

The voluntary program assessment takes into account established food standards as HACCP, ISO 22000, GFSI, enriched by specific elements for insect food, developed with the contributions of food safety experts, scientists, producers and farmers. The 3 steps process goes through laboratory analysis; the audit of farming or manufacturing operations for food safety; the evaluation of environmental impacts (e.g. GHGE) and social fairness.

ENTOTRUST is becoming the icon for insect food quality, and for retailers searching innovative quality products. Investors are backing the program activity which is growing at double digits.
