New Literacy Organization Encourages Children to Embrace the Joy of Reading

Introducing the new Sleep Pea Angelâ„¢ Literacy Organization, Inc. (SPALO), a non-profit group that encourages children to embrace the joys of reading and writing through using their own creativity and imagination.

Marietta, GA, April 12, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Founded in 2007 by DiAnn Mason, author of Sleep Pea Angel Adventure Series, SPALO was created to provide literacy programs for elementary school age children with the focus on encouraging a positive and enjoyable attitude about reading. Teaching children to read is critical in their formative years, however, another important part of the puzzle is helping them develop a passion for reading. “We have learned that children’s attitudes about how much they read and what they read changes as they get older. Our goal at SPALO is to develop reading writing programs that are fun and interactive. Children who have positive attitudes about reading perform at a higher level throughout their school years. It also helps to shape and mold their reading habits as adults, which in turn impacts their careers.” says Mason.

Through a passionate and committed volunteer team, SPALO has already begun implementing its creative programs. In November, 2007 SPALO was invited to conduct their “Having A Reading & Writing Good Time” and I Love To Write Day programs for the International Community School (ICS) in Decatur, GA. More than 90 fifth and six grade students representing 40 countries participated in writing poetry and creating book marks that would serve as mementos of the special day. A collection of the poems were selected for the ICS Poetry Book. This book is an incredible work of poetic expression from the heart s of these talented children. In April 2008, SPALO will be working with the Carroll County Elementary School System in Georgia where more than 3,000 children will experience the SPALO literacy programs over a five day period.

SPALO is working hard to fulfill its mission, “dedicated to improving the lives of children one book at a time” and is proud to contribute to a cause that will not only help to change children’s attitudes about reading, but will impact their adult lives as well.
