Stumps Prom Awards $25,000 of Prizes in Ultimate Prom Contest

In the Ultimate Prom Contest, Stumps Prom awarded $25,000 to a Murray High School in Murray, Kentucky for their Ultimate Prom essay, detailing their wish to host the ultimate prom in remembrance of a student who died tragically last year. The Ultimate Prom Contest also awarded a performance by Academy Award nominee John McLaughlin as well as over $15,000 of prizes to runners up.

South Whitley, IN, April 15, 2008 --(PR.com)-- This spring, Stumps Prom held the Ultimate Prom Contest and the verdict is in. Murray High School of Murray, Kentucky has won over $25,000 in prizes and a performance at their prom by Academy Award Nominated recording artist John McLaughlin.

Over 29,000 other schools applied for the contest in which they were asked to answer the question “Why does your school deserve the Ultimate Prom?”

Murray High School’s essay explained that the school wanted to have a prom in remembrance and honor of O’Brian (O.B.) Keith Payne who died in December 2007. The students wanted to remember their “beloved friend” in their ultimate prom. 16 year-old Payne played on the football team and was the manager of the boys’ basketball team and died when he was hit by a car.

The school’s May 3rd prom theme will be “Romance in Paris” with the theme song “So Close” from the Disney movie Enchanted, performed by McLaughlin.

The evening will be photographed and used in the 2009 Stumps Prom catalogue. “Who knows, maybe one of the pictures will even be on the cover,” Jacquie Downey, coordinator of the contest, said.

The parent decorating committee chair, Kim Griffo said, “When I went to tell O.B.'s mom about the award and take her to Murray High…she said, ‘That is just like O.B., still doing good things for his friends.'”

Stumps Prom developed the Ultimate Prom Contest as a way to give back to their loyal customer base.

“We wanted to give back to our customers in the biggest way possible,” said Stumps President Shep Moyle. “The 2008 Ultimate Prom will go down in history as the biggest prom bash to date.”

Stumps will also award 350 runner-up prizes totaling over $15,000 in prom décor and accessories.

“We wanted this event to make history,” said Downey. “Not only will one high school win the Ultimate Prom, but also hundreds of schools all across the United States will win gift certificates to make their prom unforgettable.”

The Ultimate Prom Contest ran through March 8, 2008 and the winning school was announced the week of March 24, 2008.

Stumps has been on the cutting edge of prom decoration and prom accessories since 1926.
