Fort Myer, VA, April 30, 2020 --(PR.com)-- USO-Metro is partnering with Giant Food responding to meet the needs of the local National Capital Region military community by providing care packages, pre-packaged meals, and daily virtual programming for military service members and their families.

#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020 – in addition to the regularly scheduled Dec 1, 2020 #GivingTuesday – as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.

At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on. It’s a day for everyone around the world to stand together and give back in all ways, no matter who or where we are.

During these times of crisis, our military steps up. It is the duty of USO-Metro, as a leading community-based military service organization, to strengthen those who serve. During this unprecedented time of social distancing, quarantines and isolation, USO-Metro’s mission of strengthening service members by keeping them connected to family, home, and country is more critical than ever before.

USO-Metro’s is participating in #GivingTuesdayNow to raise much needed support to deliver important services and programming designed to lessen the impact on our military community during this time of need. Donations will also position USO-Metro at the ready to respond to the ever-changing operational demands placed on the military in the weeks and months ahead. USO-Metro has set a goal of $20,000 and have partnered with Giant Food, which has committed to matching donations up to $10,000, to meet this mark by May 31st.

“Our military is on the front lines of this pandemic. We need them, they need us and we need your generous donations to provide our local service members and families with much needed programs and services. #GivingTuesdayNow and Giant’s commitment to do a corporate match make this an amazing opportunity to double your donation and make a valuable impact on our military community within the National Capital Region.” –Elaine Rogers, President and CEO, USO-Metro

“Giant Food has been a proud partner of USO-Metro for years and understands the needs of our military community during these turbulent times. We stand behind USO-Metro’s COVID-19 Response Efforts and pledge to match each dollar donated on #GivingTuesdayNow and throughout the month, up to $10,000, to support our local military heroes and their families.” –Tonya Herring, Chief Merchandising Officer, SVP Merchandising, Giant Food

People can show their generosity in a variety of ways during #GivingTuesdayNow, whether it’s helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing a skill, or giving to causes, every act of generosity counts. The global movement will emphasize opportunities to give back to communities and causes in safe ways that allow for social connection even while practicing physical distancing.

“As a global community, we can mourn this moment of extreme crisis while also finding the opportunity to support one another. We each have the power to make an impact with acts of generosity, no matter how small, and to ensure the sustainability of organizations and services that are crucial to the care and support of our communities,” said Asha Curran, CEO of GivingTuesday.

“#GivingTuesdayNow is a chance for us to stand united and use grassroots generosity to show that we are all in this together, beginning to end.

“Even as many face financial uncertainty, generosity is not about size. From calling an elderly neighbor to chat to offering translation help; from showing gratitude to our healthcare workers to donating to your local food bank, every act of kindness is a beacon of hope in this crisis. We all have something to give, and every act of human consideration and kindness matters.”
