Canine Research Into Psychic Dogs Yields Promising Results

Dog researchers have releases their preliminary findings of an experiments aimed at measuring the telepathic link between dogs and their owners.

Del Mar, CA, April 18, 2008 --( Join Skeptiko host Alex Tsakiris for a discussion on a new experiment examining whether some dogs have ESP. During the 30-minute show Tsakiris examines history of the experiment and the work of Dr. Rupert Sheldrake and his book, “Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home”. He also recounts his experience in replicating the experiment:

“…I interviewed animal experts, folks like: Jill Morstad, Stanley Coren, Mark Bekoff, Clive Wynne, and of course Rupert Sheldrake. I also talked to Skeptics like Richard Wiseman and James Randi, who have been critical of the experiment. At the same time, I began my search for dog owners. For months I ran ads on Craigslist and in newspapers. I posted in forums. I hired animal communication consultants. I did radio interviews. I did everything I could think of to find these dogs. While I kept getting close, I was never able to find the right combination of owner and dog, until I ran into Tommy...”

Tsakiris also outline future plans for the research including the participation by several prominent canine behavior researchers.

Alex Tsakiris is one of a group at replicating the research of Dr. Rupert Sheldrake. This research examines the telepathic link between dog and their owners. Despite scientific and anecdotal evidence, many scientists remain skeptical of these capabilities. Researchers hope to overcome this skepticism with their new findings.

Skeptiko is the first scientifically oriented Podcast exploring new research in controversial areas of science such as telepathy, psi, parapsychology, near-death-experience, reincarnation, and after-life encounters. Each episode features open, honest debate on new scientific discoveries. The show includes interviews with top research scientists and their critics.
