Katherine Anne Confections to Launch Eco-Chocolate Truffles Line at Whole Foods Market®

High-End Truffles a Great Idea for Eco-Friendly Moms.

Chicago, IL, April 26, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Katherine Anne Confections, a specialty handmade confections provider committed to going green, will soon be available at Whole Foods Market locations across Illinois. Whole Foods Market, the world’s leading natural and organic retailer, is introducing Katherine Anne Confections in all its Illinois stores during the month of May.

“Katherine Anne Confections and Whole Foods Market are a perfect match” says Katherine Duncan, owner of Katherine-Anne Confections. “Both companies believe in being green, using sustainable resources and are wholeheartedly in support of fairly traded products.”

Some of the ways Katherine-Anne Confections has reduced its carbon footprint are:
Using handmade packaging that is created by a fair-trade workshop of artisans in the Philippines.
The boxes are constructed from tree-free paper that is created from a renewable long grass that grows yearly.
The boxes (excluding the peek-a-boo window) are 100% biodegradable and recyclable.
Brochure and day-to-day use paper are at least 30% post-consumer recycled paper. In addition, the paper for the brochures is FSC certified and chlorine free.

Wholesale caramels are delivered in recycled bags. In addition, deliveries are made by bicycle whenever possible.

Procedures in the kitchen are designed to produce less waste. For instance, washable containers are used instead of disposable plastic food-storage bags.

“Our primary goals for this year are to source recycled shipping boxes; to use primarily organic and local ingredients; and to find or create more eco-friendly candy cups and wrappers,” says Ms. Duncan. “All of our products are handmade using natural ingredients – nothing artificial, no preservatives, and nothing you can't pronounce. We source as many local and organic ingredients as possible: one example is our use of Sunny Hill Farm honey that comes from Harvard, Illinois.”

Another reason Katherine is excited about the launch of her confections in all the Whole Foods Market stores in Illinois: “Our main goal has been to meet the minimum orders necessary to use organic cream and butter exclusively from Goodness Greenness, a much respected company in organic produce and dairy products in Chicago. Now, we can begin using this company on a regular basis.”

From supporting local businesses to being a company that supports sustainability, Katherine-Anne confections does not sacrifice taste in the process. Their products are handmade from start to finish. Everything is done in-house, from chopping fruits to roasting nuts. Caramels are stirred in big kettles over the stove, then cut and wrapped by hand. The truffles are hand rolled and dipped in the traditional fashion. The truffle flavors are a twist on traditional: instead of an orange truffle, consumers rave about the citrus truffle, created with lemon, orange, and lime, and topped with homemade candied orange peel. However, the company also designs flavors to give consumers the security of knowing that the boxed confections will delight any recipient for any occasion. This feature makes these unique truffles and caramels very popular for client gifts, Valentine's Day and holiday gifts.

“Our goal is to show you can make a decadently delicious product and still be good to the Earth at every turn. Anyone can give Katherine Anne eco-friendly truffles and caramels this Mother's Day. Mothers, as well as Mother Earth, will be delighted” says Katherine.
