Local Resorts Teams Up With EFSN to Support California Schools

Educational Foundation Support Network has teamed up with WorldMark by Wyndham® to contribute funds through a community outreach program called Simple Fundraiser.

Goodyear, AZ, May 01, 2008 --(PR.com)-- With an ever increasing need for additional funds, schools, youth groups and community organizations are struggling to find the right financial solutions to meet their growing needs. “Fundraising is no longer about field trips and ice cream socials, today’s fundraising is about supporting the basic needs of our youth,” states Anthony Calderon, Executive Director for the Educational Foundation Support Network (EFSN). “Without funds, kids will be left with fewer opportunities to participate in sports, drama, band or other activities that build character and teach life skills. And while cookie dough and car washes have been the standard, it is time for a change.”

EFSN has teamed up with WorldMark by Wyndham® to contribute funds through a community outreach program called Simple Fundraiser. “We believe it’s our corporate responsibility to do whatever possible to support local youth initiatives,” says Scott Norby, Regional Community Marketing Manager for WorldMark. “Educational budget cuts are eliminating the very things we as adults took for granted; if outside funds are not made available, opportunities for our own children will simply disappear.”

Since 2005, EFSN has been contributing funds that have been used to provide new educational technology and playground equipment for schools; supplement travel for youth groups and provide scholarship for summer camps. “There is no limit to the amount of money that can be raised through this program,” states Calderon.

The need for fundraising is nothing new. According to a survey by the National Parent Teacher Association, over 86% of all parents expect to be involved in at least one fundraiser each year. If you work in an office, you have likely been approached by co-workers moonlighting as fundraising reps for their kid’s soccer team. “Fundraising is no longer something we do to raise additional funds, it is something we now do to raise operational funds”, states Steve Beden, Executive Director of the North American Booster Club Association (NABCA). “Without fundraising dollars, children wouldn’t have the chance to participate in programs that build character, develop motor skills and provide educational opportunities. We encourage more companies to step up and support children’s initiatives.”

There are literally thousands of fundraisers available to any group; from magazines subscriptions to discount cards, if you have the member base (or sales force), your organization can raise money. While most fundraisers operate on a commission of sales, Simple Fundraiser requires no sales, no set up and you don’t have to wash a single car. “The days of kids going door to door selling products is over; it is too time consuming, and way too dangerous”, says Calderon. “The best fundraisers are those that can offer the most return on the least amount of effort; and that is exactly what Simple Fundraiser is all about.”

Teachers worry about how much time such fundraisers take away from studies as they track catalogs and payments and console students struggling to sell. Even the principals are fed up. A recent survey by the National Association of Elementary School Principals reports that 64 percent of principals would stop fundraising if they could because it is distracting and puts too much pressure on kids to sell.

EFSN has found a safe, more effective funding solution that offers something for everyone. The concept is simple. Parents, teachers, coaches, friends and/or family attend a WorldMark vacation ownership presentation; for each couple and/or single that attends, that sponsored group receives $100. The amount raised is only limited by the size and participation of the group.

In an effort to support the needs of our Southern California communities, EFSN has recently announced the hiring of Paul Rycus, Southern California Regional Manager. Mr. Rycus joins EFSN with over 25 years of fundraising and management experience. "We are very pleased that Paul Rycus has chosen to join EFSN. Paul brings a tremendous amount of senior leadership and experience to our company with his prior responsibilities in marketing, sales and general management in the fundraising community", says Calderon.

“To raise $10,000, a youth group would have to sell 1,800 tubs of cookie dough, wash 2,000 cars over 17 weekends or hold a few very successful and time intensive spaghetti feeds”, says Rycus. “With Simple Fundraiser, only 100 people need to attend a 90-minute WorldMark presentation. As a bonus, each participant will also receive a 4-day 3-night vacation for two!”

“WorldMark by Wyndham prides itself on informative, no obligation presentations; and by sponsoring this type of fundraiser, one of our goals is to become part of the solution by providing schools a better channel to raise funds” says Norby.

Any school, youth group or community-based organization can take advantage of this program by registering at simplefundraiser.com. EFSN provides all materials, including flyers, registration forms, and your own personal Fundraising Program Coordinator. “The idea is to make this as unobtrusive as possible,” says Calderon. “We want to provide schools options without adding an abundance of work.”
