New Cybersecurity Non-Profit America's Secret Weapon in Cyberwar

Colorado Springs, CO, September 11, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The creation of a unique nonprofit dedicated to helping defend the nation while also helping the community was a long time in the making. The co-founders of a new nonprofit took their call-to-action from the tragic events of 11 September 2001 and took their inspiration from the 25 January 2015 Forbes article, “Cybersecurity Non-Profits Should Be America's Secret Weapon in Obama's Cyberwar Plan” to establish the Cyber Institute.

Nonprofit co-founders Andrew Vance and Taylor Rodriguez have the cyber technology and cyber defense experience they feel can make a difference. Rodriguez, with her industry award-winning experience as a tech entrepreneur and as the Communications Chairwoman for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), will assume the role of Executive Director for Cyber Institute's Women and Minorities in the Cyber Workforce. Vance, with his experience as a former infantry and intelligence officer and as a Chief Cyber Analyst and Research Fellow with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), will assume the role of Executive Director for Cyber Institute’s Center for Cyber Risk Research and Policy.

The nonprofit’s vision is to ensure a safer and more inclusive cyber world. They will work to reduce barriers to cyber security and STEM-related careers utilizing traditional and nontraditional pathways. The cybersecurity industry continues to grow at an incredibly fast rate. While the number of jobs in cybersecurity is ever-growing, the same cannot be said about the workforce needed to fill those jobs. There is a continued predicted global shortage of cyber security professionals; over 2 million by the end of 2017. With a deficit that large, the Cyber Institute aims to fill those gaps by motivating women and minorities towards STEM and cybersecurity careers through innovative workforce development programs. Their mission is to increase access to education, employment, and workforce development to ensure they will have greater career opportunities while also empowering them to safeguard our digital world. Cyber Institute will bring their combined expertise of over 20 years in technology to innovate cyber education, workforce development, and government policy perspectives.
