Express Logic Joins Eclipse Foundation

Company becomes add-in provider and introduces BenchX IDE based on Eclipse.

San Diego, CA, May 24, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Express Logic, Inc., the worldwide leader in royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOS), announced that it has joined the Eclipse Foundation, an open-source community, whose projects are focused on building an open development platform comprised of extensible frameworks, tools and runtimes for building, deploying and managing software across the lifecycle. The Eclipse Foundation is a not-for-profit, member-supported corporation that hosts the Eclipse projects and helps cultivate both an open-source community and an ecosystem of complementary products and services.

Recently, Express Logic introduced an Eclipse-based Integrated Development Environment, BenchX™, which provides software developers with the tools they need to build intelligent embedded devices. BenchX has been well received, having been honored by Venture Development Corporation (VDC) with its “Embeddy” Best of Show award for ESC 2008-Silicon Valley, and eg3.com’s Editor Tech Choice award.

“We’re excited to become part of the open-source community through membership in the Eclipse Foundation,” commented William E. Lamie, president of Express Logic. “Our initial impression has been outstandingly positive, and we’ve been greeted with offers of cooperation and assistance from the community that are most refreshing. Our initial efforts have already resulted in the introduction of a commercial product based on Eclipse, our BenchX™ IDE, which has recently won awards from VDC and eg3.com. We plan to work with the other members of the Eclipse Foundation to help strengthen the Eclipse ecosystem with our particular emphasis on benefits to embedded developers.”

The Eclipse Project was originally created by IBM in November 2001 and supported by a consortium of software vendors. The Eclipse Foundation was created in January 2004 as an independent not-for-profit corporation to act as the steward of the Eclipse community. The independent not-for-profit corporation was created to allow a vendor neutral and open, transparent community to be established around Eclipse. Today, the Eclipse community consists of individuals and organizations from a cross section of the software industry.

"We welcome Express Logic to the Eclipse Foundation, and we greatly appreciate their efforts to expand the availability of Eclipse to embedded developers,” said Mike Milinkovich, Executive Director of the Eclipse Foundation, Inc. “Express Logic's award-winning BenchX Embedded IDE joins the large and growing ecosystem of Eclipse-based commercial products. We look forward to Express Logic's continuing contributions to the Eclipse community."
