ProgressiveU Announces the Launch of Their Phoneraiser Campaign

ProgressiveU.org will begin collecting used cellphones, ink cartridges, digital cameras, MP3s players and handheld video game consoles for donation to Phoneraiser.

San Mateo, CA, May 24, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Beginning today, ProgressiveU will begin collection of used cellphones, inkjet cartridges, digital cameras, MP3 players and handheld game consoles to help raise much needed funds for ProgressiveU.org. These items will be collected nationwide until further notice. The organization will receive money from Phoneraiser for each item collected during this fundraiser, with all funds received going towards the Blogging For Progress Scholarship contest and other related expenses.

Even more importantly than the funds raised toward the scholarship, Phoneraiser is a company that specializes in recycling and refurbishing used technology. Your donation will help protect the environment with your unwanted items being recycled in accordance with EPA regulations or refurbished and reused. Phoneraiser makes your unneeded technology available to those who can use it, while keeping it out of the landfill. If improperly disposed of, the cell phone can pollute up to 132,000 liters of drinking water.

“We are very excited about this program”, says Adam Labonoski, Fundraising Committee. “This program not only benefits ProgressiveU.org, but assists in preserving the environment and bringing communications to people who could not otherwise afford it. It is a very progressive program and that is what ProgressiveU.org is all about.”

Progressive U is a student-run social welfare organization that encourages an open discussion of current events, progressive values, and public policy priorities. The Progressive U Blogging for Progress scholarship was created in 2005 to recognize those students who make an outstanding effort to open lines of communication and dialog amongst high school and college students on issues of public policy, social welfare, and current events. Students from around the country write and maintain blogs that have been picked up by the news media, public policy and social welfare organizations around the world. To date, Progressive U has awarded thousands of dollars towards higher education to outstanding students, in addition to becoming home to nearly 40,000 student bloggers and 250,000 guests each month.
