Alliance for Affordable Services Awards $203,000 in Scholarship funds

Scholarship program takes effect and helps alleviate the cost of higher education. Offered by the Alliance for Affordable Services, a national, not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping members live better and save more.

Ft Lauderdale, FL, June 02, 2008 --(PR.com)-- According to U.S. Census Bureau statistics, the average of tuition, room and board for in-state students at a four-year public college for the entire academic year is $12,605. That number has more than doubled since 1990.

To help alleviate the costs of higher education for members and their families, the Alliance for Affordable Services launched the Alliance Scholarship program. This year, the Alliance awarded $203,000 in scholarships to 135 college-bound students from across the nation.

"The Alliance knows how important a college education can be, but it's not getting any cheaper," Richard Scott says, local representative for the Alliance for Affordable Services. "The Alliance Scholarship Program allows our members' dependents to pursue an education that otherwise might not be available because of financial constraints."

Self-employed individuals and small-business owners struggle day-to-day to keep up with their corporate America counterparts. While those working for corporations have access to scholarship programs for their dependents, the self-employed and small-business owners often do not. The Alliance designed the scholarship program to help level the playing field for Alliance Members and their families.

The program, open to dependents of Alliance Members ages 16-28, presents $2,000 to first time recipients pursuing their undergraduate degree. Renewing scholarships are available up to three consecutive years for $1,000 to those students who maintain a 3.5 GPA.

"The scholarship program is one of the most important benefits Alliance Members have access to," Richard Scott says. "These funds help families battle the rising costs of higher education and allow hard-working students to achieve their dreams. The nice thing is there is no waiting time. As soon as you become a member, your dependent is eligible"

The Alliance for Affordable Services is a national, not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping members live better and save more. The Alliance uses the power of the group to negotiate significant savings on a variety of business, lifestyle and health care benefits for more than 150,000 members.
