"Best-of-Appellation" Awarded to Sol Rouge for Top Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Kelseyville, CA, June 04, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Sol Rouge, a family vineyard and winery producing boutique California wines, was selected as “Best-of-Appellation” by Appellation America, receiving top honors for its 2005 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

Sol Rouge selected as one of the 8 out of the 809 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon wines covered by Appellation America to receive the “Best-of-Appellation” award in its recent review of Napa Valley wines. The “Best of Appellation Awards” is a prestigious award honoring only a few select outstanding producers in each appellation across the United States. With Napa Valley, being one of the largest and more prestigious appellations and Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon commonly “considered the ‘king’ of Napa Valley wines,” this award is considered one of the top honors of the “Best of Appellation” awards.

Sol Rouge was in good company with several other Napa wineries receiving “Best-of’-Appellation” awards including Flora Springs, Frog’s Leap, Pine Ridge, and Robert Mondavi Winery along with top Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon wines like 2005 Whitehall Lane Cabernet Sauvignon ($60), 2004 Cakebread Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, Vine Hill Rance ($105), and 2004 Venge Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve ($125). “To be recognized with the likes of Robert Mondavi, Cakebread Cellars, and, one of my personal favorite Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon’s, Venge Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve from Kirk & Nils Venge, is an honor,” said Bryan Kane, winemaker and owner of Sol Rouge.

Tasting for the “Best of Appellation Awards” is done blind in flight categories composed of wines of the same variety from the same appellation. The focus is on identifying distinct regional signatures, in this case, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. A regional signature is deemed to be a pattern of taste and character identifiable in the wine, and traceable to the terroir of the region and the locally applied technologies in viticulture and oenology. Evaluators individually analyze all the wines in the flight, making notes and assessing each wine objectively against the regionally-informed qualitative benchmark on four separate dimensions; color, nose, flavor, and balance. The tasting panel was composed of Appellation America’s Senior Editors and Regional correspondents including such notable wine writers as Dan Berger (Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, and Decanter Magazine) and Alan Goldfarb (San Francisco Examiner, the San Jose Mercury News, and Wine Enthusiast Magazine), who wrote a review and recommended the wine on February 21, 2008. “We are excited about the award and look forward to more reviews of our newly released wines including our 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon”, said Bryan. “Although our 2005 Sol Rouge Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is sold out at the winery, the response to our new 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon wines has been fantastic”, said Bryan referring to a recent review of the wine by Wine X Magazine in which the Sol Rouge 2006 Lake County Cabernet Sauvignon received a score of 95 points out of 100. Sol Rouge is a small, boutique winery that typically sells out upon release, therefore, those who are interested in our wines to sign up for the Sol Rouge Wine Club to secure an allocation of all wines, including access to limited release wines. About Sol Rouge
Sol Rouge is a family estate located at 1800' elevation in the Red Hills Appellation. North of Napa in the foothills of a dormant volcano which formed the North Coast wine country, this land contains rich, red volcanic soil and, from this unique profile, Sol Rouge derived its name – translating to “Red Soil” in French. This 70 acre estate is currently planted with Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc and will soon be planted with Zinfandel, Petite Syrah and Tannat. Adjacent to two of Napa's premier grape growers (Beckstoffer and Snider), this aggressive sight is all hillside with slopes up to 60% and is said to be the most tightly planted vineyard in the Red Hills AVA, with almost 1600 vines per acre.

Sol Rouge is focused on producing wines similar to that of the Rhone and Bordeaux regions of France. We currently partner with vineyards in California who produce these varietals with the distinct soil profiles similar to our terroir and those of France. Our "non-intervention" philosophy helps to bring the true flavor and characteristics of each vineyard through to our wines.
