Colliers Welcomes Sustainable Future for Montenegro's Velika Plaza

New official website for the Velika Plaza project.

Podgorica, Serbia and Montenegro, June 07, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Colliers International Southeast Europe, the leading international real estate consultants in Southeast Europe, have welcomed the commitment by the Government of Montenegro to a sustainable future for Velika Plaza.

Velika Plaza, the longest beach in Montenegro and one of the leading development locations in the Mediterranean, is currently being tendered by the Government of Montenegro. The Ministry for Economic Development of the Government of Montenegro has launched a special website for the project which designates the future of Velika Plaza as a "sustainable waterfront community".

Colliers International Southeast Europe, the only leading international property consultants to have an office in Montenegro, are major supporters of a sustainable future for the extraordinary natural beauty of Montenegro's coastline. Colliers arranged last year for the the acclaimed Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, who was hailed by Time Magazine as one of its Top 100 innovators for the 21st century, to visit Velika Plaza and the Montenegro municipality of Ulcinj. Following his visit the authorities there announced radical new plans to ensure a sustainable, eco-friendly future for their beautiful coastline.

Shigeru Ban was honored last year at the MIPIM international real estate awards in Cannes for his sustainable vision for the tsunami reconstruction project in Kirinda, Sri Lanka. The Kirinda project was awarded an historic two prizes at the awards, winning not only "best residential" award but also a special tribute and serving as the inspiration for a new Green Building award.

There is a history of co-operation between Shigeru Ban and Colliers International Southeast Europe - the Regional Director of Colliers International Southeast Europe, Philip Bay, was the initiator of the Kirinda project and encouraged the celebrated Japanese architect to be involved in a new vision for the Velika Plaza area.

Colliers International Southeast Europe was named Property Consultant of the Year for the region in 2008 for the third straight year. It has ten offices in six countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro and Serbia, and performs selected assignments in Slovenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, FYR of Macedonia, and Cyprus.

Colliers International Southeast Europe currently has 3,000,000 m2 of projects under exclusive representation. It is bigger than all three of its nearest competitors put together, and has averaged growth of 69% in the last five years per annum.
