Maps101 Launches Presidential Election Map Collection

Online K-12 Education Resource Maps101 announces the addition of a new series of presidential election maps.

Santa Barbara, CA, June 11, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Maps101 is the leading geography and social studies online resource that gives K-12 schools, teachers and students access to over 4,000 maps, current events, educational games and quizzes, reference atlases, lesson plans and more. Today, Maps101 announced the addition of a new, engaging series — the U.S. Presidential Election Map Collection.

The maps detail every presidential election held in the United States, from the very first one in 1789, through the latest held in 2004. They illustrate who the candidates were, which parties won in which states, and how each state’s Popular votes were translated into its Electoral College votes.

Loraine Klotz, Maps 101 Director of Sales, says, “The fact that this is a presidential election year makes the new map series an ideal complement to a social studies or history teacher’s lesson plans, and clearly delineates the electoral process for the students. Teachers wanting to impart a sense of the importance of being civically active to their students realize the significance of helping students connect past events with the present day, and using a visual resource such as a map detailing the results of elections is an excellent way to do this.”

New content is continually added to Maps101, and next up for release is an interactive map showing the state-by-state results of the 2008 primary elections. An interactive general election map will follow the November Presidential vote.

The U.S. Presidential Election Maps are all formatted for easy classroom use. They can be printed and used as handouts or in overhead transparencies, projected straight from the website or incorporated into a PowerPoint presentation. Because Maps101 allows students access to materials from both school and home, they can be conveniently used for doing research and completing homework assignments.
