Florida's Gov. Charlie Crist recently announced that nearly 130,000 elementary students at 294 schools had signed up for his new Governor's Fitness Challenge. Motivated by this initiative, KidsHoop.org makes a pledge to its Central Florida community to do its part in helping bring greater awareness to the importance of children's fitness programs.
Today, childhood obesity is one of our nation’s leading health threats. Research shows 11 million kids are overweight, and an additional 13 million are at risk for being overweight. As a result more and more kids are developing conditions and diseases that we would normally associate with adults—like high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, and type-2 diabetes.
