Aberdeen, NC, July 19, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Amanda Jakl has been named Special Events and Communications Coordinator at Habitat for Humanity of Moore County, Elizabeth Cox, Executive Director, announced today. Ms. Jakl will have the responsibility of coordinating and creating events for both Moore and Richmond counties, handling public relations and marketing, and promoting education about Habitat within the community.

“I’m very excited to be part of the Habitat team,” said Ms. Jakl, “I look forward to all the challenges the position brings and am honored to work for such a worthy organization.”

Ms. Jakl is formerly from Minnesota where she attended the University of Minnesota and earned a degree in American, Italian and Communications Studies. Ms. Jakl brings a diverse background to the position, having lived in Italy for three years and a previous position with the national radio show, A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor. While with the well-known radio show, Ms. Jakl had a wide variety of responsibilities, from publication layout to photography to merchandise. She’ll wear as many hats at her new Habitat position as she did on the radio show.

Habitat of Humanity of Moore County was founded in 1988 by an inter-denominational group concerned about substandard housing, and it exists to serve citizens of Moore and Richmond counties living at 60 percent or less of median income who need suitable housing. Habitat is a Christian ministry with an ecumenical bent and an interfaith focus. Habitat not only builds its houses with the potential homeowners and hundreds of volunteers, but also provides twenty or twenty-five year mortgages for the families at zero interest. Their services are available to people of all races and faiths, as well as to people who profess no religious faith. Since 1988, this affiliate has built 152 homes with and for families in need of affordable housing in Moore and Richmond Counties.
