Abingdon at Tradition to Break Ground on Full-Service Retirement Community

Charlotte, NC, July 19, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Abingdon at Tradition, a master-planned, full-service retirement community developed by Senior Living Communities, will kickoff construction in Port St. Lucie with a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, July 31 at 8:30 AM. The community is expected to open mid 2009.

“When we chose Abingdon at Tradition, we were looking for a community with a variety of activities that was close to the current area that we live,” said new members Joy and Robert Spence. “We’ve met some very nice people, love the friendly atmosphere, the bright and airy apartments, the wellness program and having everything right here in the town of Tradition. Tradition has a relaxing atmosphere with everything close by and we are not too far away from our friends. The town reminds us of the north east and brings back very fond memories.”

The gated retirement community will provide a highly trained, round-the-clock staff to ensure unparalleled peace of mind. In addition, a 24-hour emergency notification system will be present in each of Abingdon at Tradition’s homes. The master plan, once complete, will include 70 single-family homes, 160 condominium-style villas, 26 enhanced living villas and 56 assisted living units, skilled nursing beds and Alzheimer’s care units.

Along with a variety of housing options, Abingdon at Tradition offers many upscale amenities typically not seen in traditional retirement communities. Residents can enjoy scheduled transportation, indoor and outdoor pools, healthcare clubhouse, putting green and a grand clubhouse – the centerpiece and highlight of the community. In addition, a wellness program will provide the environment, education, resources, motivation and encouragement that help residents rise to high levels of personal wellness, ensuring an overall quality of life.

Elkins Construction of Jacksonville is the general contractor for the construction of the campus, with Triad Design Group performing as the key architect and Joyce Design Group managing the interior design. Health Care REIT, Inc. , Senior Living Communities’ financial partner, provides the financial backing for Abingdon at Tradition.
