Spanish Navy Confirms F100 Frigate for MAST 2008

The Spanish Navy has confirmed the presence of Frigate F101 “Alvaro de Bazán” - joining other ships to be confirmed at MAST - for the duration of MAST 2008, in Cadiz harbour adjacent to the conference and trade-show.

Cadiz, Spain, July 26, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Commissioned in September 2002, the multipurpose frigate - built by the Spanish shipbuilder Navantia (exhibiting in the MAST 2008 trade-show) was the first European ship equipped with the Aegis Combat system.

With MAST’s overarching theme of global contributions to future maritime (above and below the surface environments) security and defence, the frigate is a good example of international cooperation.

Indra (MAST 2008’s Diamond Industry Sponsor) provided the ships’ ldebaran Electronic Support Measures / Electronic Countermeasures (ESM/ECM) system, which they will no doubt include on their trade-show stand.

Experts from Lockheed Martin will also be present on their stand in the trade-show (and in conference session) to discuss the frigate’s AN/SPY-1D Combat system, Mark 41 vertical launch system, Lockheed Martin Sippican’s Mk 36 SRBOC chaff and decoy launchers.

Raytheon (leaders of the international team that developed the ship’s Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM), and manufacturers of its medium-range missile SM-2MR Block IIIA, and the DE1160 LF active and passive sonar.) will also have a considerable presence in the trade-show.

Other contributors to the programme - not currently confirmed as trade-show exhibitors, but otherwise represented in MAST 2008 – include: BAE Systems; DORNA; Argon ST; Sikorsky (SH-60B LAMPS Mk III Seahawk helicopters).

MAST 2008 has a number of sessions dedicated to the Spanish frigate programme and its associated systems and technologies (including Aegis), and similarly German government/industry sessions on their F125 programme.
