Québec-Based Non-Profit Workshops for Biodiversity to Showcase Local Action and Biodiversity Solutions at COP17 in Armenia

Yerevan, Armenia, August 27, 2026 --(PR.com)-- Québec-based non-profit Workshops for Biodiversity (Ateliers pour la biodiversité) will participate in the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, taking place in Yerevan, Armenia, from October 18 to 30, 2026.

As the international community works to implement the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, Workshops for Biodiversity will highlight how local actors contribute to these targets through three pathways: biodiversity mainstreaming, capacity building, and education.

“Attending COP17 is not only about sharing Québec’s experience on the international stage; it is also about bringing knowledge, tools, and inspiring approaches back home,” says David Roy, Executive Director of Workshops for Biodiversity. “With the 2030 targets fast approaching, our goal in Yerevan is to demonstrate how collaboration among organizations, subnational actors, and local communities can help translate global biodiversity commitments into concrete decisions and actions.”

Three areas of focus

The organization’s participation will focus on three complementary areas:
- Mainstreaming Biodiversity into Decision-Making: Workshops for Biodiversity will host an event to present Towards a Québec Economy in Harmony with Nature. Developed with nearly 100 organizations, this report identifies pathways to integrate biodiversity considerations into economic decisions.

- Building Capacity for Action: Through workshops, training programs, and collaborative initiatives, the organization supports communities and businesses in developing the tools needed to understand biodiversity challenges and take action.

- Advancing Education and Youth Engagement: The delegation will highlight educational initiatives, including the Biodiversity Collage, participation in Québec’s Nature-Studies Program, and a province-wide youth consultation conducted in collaboration with the Global Youth Biodiversity Network Québec (GYBN Québec).

Connecting Québec action with global biodiversity goals

COP17 will allow Workshops for Biodiversity to share Québec initiatives, exchange knowledge with international partners, and strengthen collaborations. Following the conference, the organization will share key insights with Québec stakeholders through analytical publications and its Dialogues for Biodiversity initiative.

Workshops for Biodiversity’s participation in COP17 is supported through Québec’s March 2023 budget measure dedicated to the implementation of Plan Nature 2030.
