Elite Medicare Specialists to Host Free Senior Community Resource Day in Petersburg
September 22 event will bring together healthcare professionals, public safety leaders and community organizations to connect seniors and families with health, safety and local resources.
Petersburg, VA, September 10, 2026 --(PR.com)-- Elite Medicare Specialists will host a Senior Community Resource Day & Customer Appreciation Event on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Burgess Shopping Center, 2557 S. Crater Road in Petersburg.
The free event is open to the public and is designed to bring seniors, caregivers and families together with healthcare professionals, public safety leaders and community organizations in one convenient location.
“Our goal is to create an opportunity for seniors to not only learn about resources available to them, but to actually meet the people and organizations providing those resources in their community,” said Tia Vango, President of Elite Medicare Specialists. “We want people to leave feeling more informed, more empowered and more connected.”
The event will feature free health screenings, senior safety education, healthcare professional-led discussions, community resources, giveaways and prize drawings, and activities throughout the day.
Senior Safety Takes Center Stage
A major focus of the event will be helping older adults better understand how to protect themselves and where to turn when they need assistance.
A Senior Safety Panel from noon to 1 p.m. will bring together public safety, healthcare, legal and community perspectives to discuss issues affecting seniors and their families.
The panel will include Petersburg Sheriff Vanessa R. Crawford, along with community leaders and professionals representing healthcare, legal services and emergency preparedness.
Following the panel, attendees can participate in a Senior Self-Defense & Personal Safety Demonstration from 1 to 1:30 p.m., providing practical information for older adults about personal safety and what to do when they feel their safety may be at risk.
Health Education and Free Screenings
Healthcare professionals will also provide education focused on helping seniors maintain their health and independence.
Dr. Tushar Shah of CenterWell Senior Primary Care will present “Staying Independent Longer: Preventive Health for Seniors” from 1:35 to 1:50 p.m.
Monrelle Parrish, NP, of JenCare Senior Medical Center will present “Recognizing Medical Emergencies Early” from 1:55 to 2:20 p.m.
Free health screenings and opportunities to connect directly with healthcare and community organizations will be available throughout the event.
Community Resources, Activities and Connections
Participating organizations will provide information and resources addressing a variety of needs important to older adults and their families, including health and wellness, public safety, caregiver support and community services.
The day’s activities will also include Line Dancing with Kemel Patton from 2:20 to 3:20 p.m., along with giveaways, prize drawings and opportunities for attendees to meet participating organizations.
Representatives from several Medicare health plans will also provide brief educational spotlights during the day’s program.
The event concludes at 4 p.m.
