Charlotte, NC, October 22, 2026 --(PR.com)-- Charlotte Chapter to Award Scholarships to Deserving Youth; Brigadier General Twanda “Tia” Young, USA (Ret.), to Deliver Keynote Address
The Montford Point Marines Charlotte Chapter will celebrate the enduring legacy of the Montford Point Marines at its Gala on October 30, 2026, while recognizing and supporting the next generation through its annual scholarship awards.
The Gala will feature distinguished guest speaker Brigadier General Twanda “Tia” Young, USA (Ret.), who will deliver a dynamic message highlighting social change, community contributions, education, and the historic legacy of the Montford Point Marines.
The Montford Point Marines hold an important place in United States military history as the first African Americans to serve in the Marine Corps following its desegregation. Their service helped break racial barriers and represents a legacy of courage, perseverance, sacrifice, and opportunity.
That legacy continues through the Charlotte Chapter’s commitment to young people. This year, the Chapter will award scholarships to deserving students pursuing higher education. The scholarships reflect the organization’s belief that education is an important pathway to personal achievement, community advancement, and positive social change.
Chapter President Carolyn A. Hayes said, “We are proud to encourage the success of our youth. Supporting higher education is one way we can invest in their future and continue the legacy of those who came before us.”
The Gala will provide an opportunity to recognize scholarship recipients, celebrate their educational aspirations, and honor the contributions of the Montford Point Marines. General Young’s keynote address will further connect the achievements of the past with the opportunities and responsibilities of the next generation.
For the Charlotte Chapter, the scholarship program is more than an annual award. It is part of an ongoing effort to preserve the history of the Montford Point Marines while encouraging young people to pursue education, service, leadership, and meaningful contributions to their communities.
As generations change, the lessons of the Montford Point Marines remain relevant: progress can create opportunities for those who follow, and individual contributions can help shape a more inclusive society.
The Charlotte Chapter invites the community to join in honoring this remarkable legacy and celebrating the accomplishments and future potential of its scholarship recipients.
