Springfield, IL, May 02, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Wheatland, Ind. Police have issued an Amber Alert for a 14-year-old girl that they say was abducted by her stepmother in southwestern Indiana.

The Knox County Sheriff's Department says Perla Hernandez was taken by her stepmother, 45-year-old Anita Hernandez, yesterday afternoon from the home of friends she was staying with in Wheatland, about 45 miles north of Evansville. Police say she did not have the father's permission to take the girl.

Police said Anita took Perla without the permission of her father sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Monday. Officials said Perla had been staying at a home of other people she knew in Knox County. 

Police said Anita Hernandez was believed to be headed to Mexico with Perla.
Police asked anyone with information about Perla Hernandez to call the Amber Alert Hotline at (888) 58-AMBER.
