Two Canadians Plan to Introduce Canadian Ball Hockey to Africa with Their ‘Great African Run’ Entry

Two Canadians, Dany Bolduc and Craig Wilson, have decided to pursue their dreams by entering into the 2010 Budapest-Bamako Great African Charity Rally and introduce Canadian Ball Hockey to African villages in Mali and Mauritania.

Toronto, Canada, January 03, 2009 --(PR.com)-- For many people, a New Year’s Resolution involves quitting smoking, dieting, or getting more exercise. However, for two Canadians these resolutions are not nearly exciting enough. They have decided to pursue their dreams by entering into the 2010 Great African Run, and to take their favourite game, Canadian Ball Hockey, with them.

Dany Bolduc and Craig Wilson have been friends since high school, and though they have experienced several adventures together through the years, entering the Budapest to Bamako Great African Run in 2010 will be their adventure of a lifetime. The Rally, which is a charity event for entry by amateurs, will be in its 5th year next January. Competitors choose their own routes to take them over 9,000 kilometres from Budapest in Hungary, to Bamako in Mali; a route which will take Bolduc and Wilson through a number of poor and needy African villages.

Between now and next January, Bolduc and Wilson will be raising money in order to buy sports equipment, school books and basic medical supplies to give to the villages along the way. Included in the sports equipment will be sticks, nets and balls as they plan to introduce the fun and competition of Canadian Ball Hockey to the children of Africa.

“We’re very excited to introduce the sport of ball hockey to African villages and hopefully bring a smile to the faces of children throughout Mali and Mauritania” said Dany Bolduc, father of two boys, Josh (11) and Adrian (9), who are also great Canadian Ball Hockey fans.

The Budapest to Bamako Rally, aka The Great African Run, was established as an alternative to the famous trans-Saharan Paris-Dakar Rally, which itself was originally started as an event for amateurs. The Paris-Dakar however, has now become inaccessible to many budding amateur adventurers because of the excessive entry costs. The Budapest-Bamako is able to fill that void whilst the charity element benefits the African villages it passes through.

This year’s Budapest-Bamako will see over 250 teams consisting of 630 individuals from 45 different countries crossing the start line in Budapest on January 17. The going will be tough, and not all of the teams will make it to the finish line. For most competitors though, it is the thrill of taking part that really matters, and the knowledge that the charity they bring will be of great help.
