Accidental Rep and John Strasberg Studios Team Up for Summer Acting Program

John Strasberg, internationally recognized director, actor, and teacher, and artistic director of the Accidental Repertory Theater, announces a new summer acting training program July 7 - August 8, 2009 in New York City.

New York, NY, January 29, 2009 --(PR.com)-- John Strasberg, internationally recognized director, actor, and teacher, and artistic director of the Accidental Repertory Theater, announces a new summer acting training program in collaboration with John Strasberg Studios, the international center for creativity and theater arts research.

The program brings together the strengths of John Strasberg Studios, where since 1996 Strasberg has helped actors discover their “organic creative process,” and the Accidental Repertory Theater, his new nonprofit theater company which is presenting its inaugural season this year.

ART's professional training program is conceived as an alternative to the systematic methods taught in the majority of acting schools, and university undergraduate and MFA programs. ART recognizes that learning is an organic process and encourages each artist to develop by approaching the creative process as a whole, and not dividing it or the way the artist thinks about it into its separate parts.

“It’s the ability to be inspired, to be able to live spontaneously in the moment in the context of the character and the play, that takes an artist beyond technique and makes him truly creative,” Strasberg said.

Work is based directly on the artist’s desire to transform and live the life that he/she imagines. The creative process helps the actor to use his/her intelligence, imagination and intuition to merge with his or her knowledge of life and human behavior, and to develop the capacity to intuitively and consciously make creative choices that reveal his/her intimate and personal understanding of life and the life of the material. The programs are pragmatic and directly applicable to real production.

The summer program runs from July 7 through August 8, 2009, and will be presented at the John Strasberg Studios, 555 Eighth Avenue, New York, NY 10018. The curriculum includes:

Organic script analysis
Preparation
Technique and sense memory
Dance/movement for actors
Singing for actors
Audition technique
Brecht technique
Organic scene study

The price for the 5-week program is $2,750 and includes the opportunity to audit up to 15 hours of Mr. Strasberg’s private Intensive Workshop July 6-17.
