Rabbit Healthcare Systems’ Rabbit EMR Receives Certification for Their E-Prescribing System
Austin, TX, January 30, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Rabbit Healthcare Systems is pleased to announce that Rabbit EMR received certification as a qualified E-Prescribing system and went live at Lone Star Oncology on January 26, 2009.

Medicare defines E-Prescribing as: “The transmission, using electronic media, of prescription or prescription-related information between a prescriber, dispenser, pharmacy benefit manager, or health plan either directly or through an intermediary, including an e-prescribing network. E-prescribing includes, but is not limited to, two-way transmissions between the point of care and the dispenser.” – www.cms.hhs.gov E-Prescribing delivers benefits for patients, healthcare providers, and the healthcare industry.

Patients benefit from E-Prescribing in improved safety and satisfaction. Patient safety is improved by reducing medical errors driven by illegible prescriptions, system checks and warnings for inappropriate doses and drug-drug/drug-allergy harmful interactions. In addition, E-Prescribing enhances patient satisfaction by providing lower cost therapeutically equivalent alternatives as well as reducing wait times for prescriptions.

Rabbit EMR customers will benefit by improving their patients safety and satisfaction; E-Prescribing will improve practice efficiencies, cut down on interruptions, and help them successfully participate financially in the Medicare E-Prescribing Incentive Program. Efficiencies are gained by pulling patient information from the EMR allowing healthcare providers to electronically submit new and renewal prescriptions thereby avoiding handwritten and faxed prescriptions. Legible E-Prescriptions also cuts down on interruptive calls from pharmacies for clarification of benefits. As a qualified E-Prescribing system, Rabbit EMR will help Their customers successfully participate in the Medicare E-Prescribing Incentive Program which currently provides a financial bonus for using E-Prescribing annually from 2009 through 2010. Afterwards, a penalty for non-use will be charged to support continued reduction of costs.

“Rabbit Healthcare Systems is in line with new government mandates and is at the forefront of helping our clients implement healthcare information technology that reduces costs, improves efficiency and supports patient safety. Certified estimates show that E-Prescribing will reduce costs by two thirds per year.” – Brad Vassberg, CEO/President
