Gentle Path Press Helping Sex Addicts Find Help

More and more sex addicts are finding help in an unusual place: in a box. Dr. Patrick Carnes, Ph.D., who has long been considered the world's preeminent source of information and research in the field of sex addiction (in fact, he even coined the term) has developed a tool called the Recovery Start Kit to walk sex addicts down the path to recovery.

Carefree, AZ, March 22, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Gentle Path Press author Dr. Patrick Carnes has developed a new tool for sex addicts that is now proven to be effective in preventing relapse.

"With this tool, sex addicts have shown an ability to transform a life of self-destruction into a life of self-care, a life in chaos and despair into one of confidence and peace," said Carnes.

The Recovery Start Kit is the first of its kind. It includes several workbooks, CDs, DVDs and planners that the sex addict can work though alone or with his/her therapist. It gives people specific tasks to work through, in an order that makes sense. Recovery Start Kit has been used for the last two years in inpatient sex addiction treatment centers in both the US and Canada, but therapists and addicts outside the confines of hospitals are also learning how effective it can be.

But does it work? Preliminary results say yes, it does. Pine Grove Treatment Center in Mississippi has been using the kit since it came out, and they have now had a chance to track patients to see results. Here's what was found after six months of using Recovery Start Kit:

* 64% of addicts had no relapse at all
* 12% had just one slip, with no consequences
* 3% had one relapse, with no consequences
* 12% had 1-3 slips, with moderate consequences
* Only One patient had relapse with severe consequences (i.e. the patient acted out in a way that resulted in job loss, arrest, etc.)

One addict summed it up this way:
"The program for me was quite a long and deep process, because it not only made me aware of the fact that my disease was/is in fact an old defense mechanism. I have been using this defunct outdated 'raft' as a way to deal with stuff that happens on a daily basis. The meditations I found incredibly helpful. What I have understood from the process is that the short circuit in the brain has literally re-wired that part of me that helps me cope with pain, sadness, loss, etc. It has been an amazing experience and I am very fortunate to have gone through it. Thank you all involved!"

The first six months is a critical time in recovery. Like those addicted to drugs, alcohol, food, etc., relapse is most common in the first six months. To have the phenomenal results is truly a breakthrough in sex addiction treatment. The Recovery Start Kit is the first therapy tool of its kind, and it works. Find out more at www.gentlepath.com.
