Mary Nangah’s Artwork Explores Human Identity in the Persistence of Form at Agora Gallery

The most gratifying experience for Nangah as an artist is being able to create and visualize the interpretation of her thoughts, imaginations, dreams and experiences. Art provides Nangah with a place to accept imperfections, a place that allows for escape, endless imaginations and ideas. She hopes that viewers sense this vitality, and the possibility of relating to diverse stories that art can provide.

New York, NY, July 09, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Chelsea’s Agora Gallery announced they will launch an art exhibition consisting of four parts that is scheduled to run from July 21, 2009 through August 11, 2009.

Mary Nangah’s diverse body of artwork explores the role of human hair as it relates to the human identity. As paint serves as the artist’s medium of individual expression, hair is a universal medium of expression for all mankind. Nangah often utilizes digital imaging techniques to conceive her resulting paintings, morphing images of hair to intensify or enhance the textural effects of individual strands and locks. Hair, embedded with an individual’s DNA, reflects unique cultures, beliefs, experiences, and life stories. Nangah’s use of real hair on canvas in her paintings is a symbolic and a rare gesture. “I would like the audience to consume the breath of paint – the colors, lines, forms, textures.” Her paintings allow us to observe and subsequently understand the lives of others no matter how divergent their backgrounds may seem. Born in Cameroon, West Africa, Mary Nangah immigrated to the United States at the age of twelve and studied Fine Art at the University of Texas at Dallas. She lives and works in New York City.
