vineyard vines Tongal Video Contest Winners Announced This Friday

Stamford, CT, August 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- vineyard vines will announce the winners of their “How to Tie a Tie” video competition this Friday. The Stamford, CT-based retail company partnered with Santa Monica, CA-based online content creation platform Tongal in June to host their first ever video contest.

Two sets of winners will be selected, the first will be the top five videos chosen by a panel of official judges and the second will be through a unique prediction contest where members of the Tongal community try to predict the winners of the contest. The prize pool, consisting of cash and vineyard vines gift cards, totals over $2000. The contest ran from June 30th through July 31st, and asked participants to produce a video that demonstrated “How to tie a tie.” Videos would showcase vineyard vines ties and could be up to 60 seconds in length.

vineyard vines used research and customer input to determine the focus of the contest. They found that the age-old question, “how do I tie a tie?” is one of the most searched Google terms each year. “We tried to post a series of instructional images online to help our customers,” said vineyard vines co-founder and CEO, Shep Murray, “but that wasn’t working. We needed to show people how to tie a tie, and we wanted to do that in a fun way. Tapping into the Tongal community and platform was a quick and cost effective strategy to answer the question in a new and exciting way through video.”

Tongal co-founder, James DeJulio, added, “We were really excited to work with vineyard vines, not only because we love the products and lifestyle, but also because they have such an enthusiastic and loyal customer base. We’ve found that enthusiastic groups are well suited to any crowdsourcing effort. We’ve also found that a clear purpose for the job is paramount, which we had with this contest. “How do I tie a tie?” is a simple question that people consistently have and that many people have a creative answer to. All we’ve done is put them together in this contest.”

“This video contest has been an amazing opportunity for our brand, and most importantly for our customers,” said Shep Murray. “We’ve always encouraged our customers to show us how they live the Good Life by submitting photos and stories for our website and catalog. This contest was another way for us to engage our customers and incentivize user-generated content through a new platform. We’re also excited that the Tongal contest allows users to participate by selecting which videos they think are the best through the prediction contest, making it a fully interactive customer experience. Overall, we’re thrilled with the outcome, look forward to announcing the winners on Friday and hope to do many similar contests in the future.”

Four judges, including vineyard vines co-founders Shep and Ian Murray, will select first through fifth place winners on Friday, August 14th. The prediction contest winners will also be announced on Friday. Visit www.tongal.com/vineyardvines to learn more about the contest and to help predict the winner.
