Wattpad to Embrace Open Ebook Standard

New EPUB Support Paves the Way for Vast Amounts of New Content.

Toronto, Canada, September 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Wattpad, the world’s most popular ebook community, today announced its support for EPUB, the International Digital Publishing Forum’s XML-based standard for digital books and publications.

“We are excited about the support of EPUB, which is quickly becoming the de facto standard for ebooks,” said Eva Lau, COO of Wattpad. “It opens the door to a whole host of content from writers and publishers. It also paves the way to seamlessly publish our 100,000+ user generated ebooks to third parties.”

“It is essential for everyone in the ebook ecosystem to adopt the same standard,” said Michael Smith, executive director of International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF). “We welcome Wattpad to the growing list of key players who have embraced the EPUB standard.”

EPUB has gained acceptance among book publishers and writers, many of whom are committed to publishing forthcoming titles in this format. With this enhancement, Wattpad users will be able to upload and read ebooks in EPUB format. In addition, it will also allow Wattpad to make available its huge library of ebooks to EPUB capable ebook services and ebook readers in the near future.
