IIMSAM Official Dr. Naseer Homoud Urges to Adopt Principles of Non Violence on Occasion of International Day of Non Violence

Doha, Qatar, October 03, 2009 --(PR.com)-- IIMSAM Middle East Director & Goodwill Ambassador Dr. Naseer Homoud’ message on International Day of Non Violence. Dr. Naseer calls upon to develop tendencies of non violence to realize its importance from day to day life to larger issues of the contemporary world.

While commemorating International Day of Non Violence, Dr. Naseer S Homoud, Goodwill Ambassador and Director of Middle East office for the Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-algae Spirulina against Malnutrition (IIMSAM), the Permanent Observer to the United Nations Economic and Social Council called for global peace and disarmament by adopting resolutions of non violence. “It is high time when world civilization should come forward with determined motive of non violence” Dr. Naseer said while delivering his message on this notable day.

On 15 June 2007, The United Nations General Assembly agreed to observe the International Day of Non-Violence each year on 2 October – the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who helped lead India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. It is worth noting that non-violence, tolerance, full respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms for all, democracy, development, mutual understanding and respect of diversity, are interlinked and mutually reinforcing, The UN General Assembly while inviting UN family, member states, NGOS and individual to commemorate the International Day in an appropriate manner and to disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness.

While remembering Mahatma Gandhi on this occasion Dr. Naseer said “Although Mahatma held no official position in a Government, he symbolized a universal spirit of peace and brotherhood without distinction as to race or nation. Mahatma Gandhi incarnated the spirit of independence of his people, the idea of non-violence which was the very principle of the movement led by him”. The theory of Ahimsa (Non Violence) preached by Mahatma is itself a comprehensive analysis of struggle with principles of non violence.

Dr. Naseer while showing his deep concerns over present era nuclear race among nations said “present governments while neglecting supply of indispensible basic amenities for individuals are stressing more to increase their defense budgets, this situation is indeed catastrophic and something ironical to basic principles on which existence of human being depends. With efforts, which should be honest and sincere in curbing this mayhem losing its sanctity and integrity, the very future of human civilization seems to be on peril”. He further urged nations to realize the importance of non violence and call upon to denounce arms race.

Dr. Naseer further contended that the present era where we are living in, is full of other complexities which are actually threats to human existence and in such scenario efforts should be decentralized for proper spreading of peace using the methodology of non violence among nations as well as people. “Governments must come forward to realize this fact that acquiring weapons of mass destructions are not going to solve any purpose” Dr. Naseer says.

Dr. Naseer further urged for efforts which should be committed to building a culture of peace. This issue lies at the heart of any peace loving individual. “Since it comes from core of my heart, the question of peace, peace education using foundations of Gandhian philosophy of non violence has always been my main priority” Dr. Nasser says. He further goes on saying "Peace can never be fully guaranteed and covered by commercial interests, military alliances, general disarmament or bilateral treaties if the spirit of peace is not present in the hearts and desires of people, the things which can only be accounted by spearing love and solidarity among people as Mahatma successfully did”.

“The International Day of non violence is an opportunity for all peace loving individuals around the world to honor their pledge to create a better world, by urging governments, communities and individuals to enact a global ceasefire and bring us all one-step closer to world peace” Dr. Naseer further contended.

While asserting for the need to fight world hunger and nutrition problems in world, Dr Naseer said that without being able to feed the under privileged and marginalized section of the world, who are struggling with their survivals due to starvation, no programme for peace would be effective for obvious reasons. While echoing the words of Mahatma that there are people so hungry in the world that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread, Dr. Naseer urged nations to come up with unified strategy to support IIMSAM role in fighting underfeeding and world hunger.

While calling the world to support IIMSAM and its cause, Dr, Nasser appreciated the task being carried on by IIMSAM team in fighting world hunger and malnutrition through spreading Spirulina. He hoped that under guidance of His Excellency Ambassador Remigio M. Maradona Director General of the IIMSAM, the organization would reach to its target in fighting these menaces of contemporary world and thus spreading peace in world.
