Production Stimulus Package: Creative Ways to Keep Production Going

Local digital studio defers equipment and facilities rentals to ease upfront production costs of documentary project.

Burbank, CA, October 23, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Panic Ventures most recent project, Daniel Farrands’ documentary “Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy,” was searching for ways to keep production costs under control and cover expenses until payment was made for the finished project. But lending practices have been so tight during the economic meltdown that trying to secure credit has proven incredibly difficult, especially for independent productions. Thats when Bob Bekian, owner of ProHD Rentals, entered the picture with an idea.

“We offered a production stimulus program to this project,” Bekian says. “We felt that offering our studio and services on a deferred payment basis is a creative way to make projects that we believe in happen.” ProHD Rentals is supplying Panic Ventures with everything they need to shoot, including a pre-lit green screen studio, crew, audio, lighting and grip equipment. Payment for the equipment and services is being deferred until the Spring of 2010 when the documentary is scheduled for release. “This way production doesn’t have to worry about securing a loan to cover costs which could delay production and add more costs,” Bekian explains. “We are the lender.”

“Never Sleep Again,” is being produced by Daniel Farrands who is no stranger to the horror genre. His past credits include “The Haunting in Connecticut,” “His Name Was Jason,” “The Crystal Lake Massacres Revisited,” and “Halloween: The Shape of Horror.” This latest project will include interviews with Robert Englund, the man who played the iconic Freddie Kreuger, Johnny Depp and Wes Craven the writer and director of “Nightmare on Elm Street,” amongst others who will recount their experiences and memories of the infamous horror film.

“We’re here to foster the creative process,” Bekian states. “If that means helping out production with the below-the-line costs to prevent runaway production, then I will do what I can to make it happen.” And ProHD Rentals can delivers with seventy-five different HD cameras from which to choose, three complete pre-lit studios, pro audio packages, grip, electric and hardware. The dynamic relationship between ProHD Rentals and Panic Ventures, Inc. is a sign of things to come as producers search for new ways to fund their projects. Stimulus production might just be the solution the independent film scene needs to get it done.
