Padraig Harrington Named Recipient of ASAP Sports/Jim Murray Award

Los Angeles, CA, January 21, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Professional golfer, Padraig Harrington, winner of three major championships, will receive the ASAP Sports/Jim Murray Award Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA) Awards Dinner in Augusta, Georgia during Masters week.

Sponsored by ASAP Sports, a system designed to instantaneously produce verbatim transcripts of press conferences, the award was established in 2002 by the Golf Writers Association of America to honor Murray, based on a golfer's cooperation with the media.

Harrington, the 2008 GWAA Male Player of the Year, once explained to friends that players owed it to the game to be cooperative with media “because they have the toughest job.”

“Padraig is an excellent choice,” Murray's widow, Linda McCoy-Murray said. “Jim would have been extremely proud. Padraig is from Jim's ancestral land of poets, saints and scholars, and he has a tremendous respect for the golf writers and the game of golf.”

This is the eighth year for the ASAP Sports/Jim Murray Award. Previous winners were Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Juli Inkster, Nick Price, Jay Haas, Fred Funk, and Nancy Lopez.

The Jim Murray Memorial Foundation’s mission is to support the education of outstanding sports journalism students, selected through an essay competition at universities across the country. Since 2000, sixty-eight (68) "Murray Scholars" have each received a $5,000 scholarship.
