Wabi Sabi Productions Teams with Author of "You Only Live Twice" in Youth Survival Project
Author Gumersindo Vidot's struggles with alcoholism at 8 and heroin addiction at 13 prompted him to pen his autobiography and join forces with Wabi Sabi Productions who specializes in youth development programs. The two decide to start the Youth Survival Project in hopes of keeping young people from falling to the same trappings that befell Gumersindo as a youth.
Philadelphia, PA, February 17, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Gumersindo Vidot is a survivor. His loving Immigrant parents who worked hard to take care of the family were paramount in his survival. That was where he found the strength to escape the hell that he had found himself in. Now the book and the accompanying Youth Survival Project are ready for release. The book reading event will be broadcast live on Internet Radio on Feb 17, 2010 at 9pmEST, 6pm PST on http://ww.blogtalkradio.com/artistmagnet. The show can also be heard by calling 646 929-2127. Wabi Sabi Productions is the sponsor for the book reading, the radio program and the joint collaboration with YOLTBOOKS on the youth development project.
The autobiography "You Only Live Twice" is a recollection of childhood incidents that are remarkably chilling and humorous. Gumersindo will read portions of the book on the one hour radio segment hosted by Emmitt Thrower. Afterwards they will discuss issues covered in the book about racism, family and surviving. Gumersindo delayed writing this book for several decades till the time was right. "Now is the right time", he says. He states, “Part of my inspiration for writing the book now was the urgent need to get the message out to youth about the sometimes fatal trapping of the ghetto. To get them the education not provided in schools and other institutions for them." The goal is to prevent youth from making some of the same mistakes he made as a young person.
The 190 page book has stories and images relating to his growing up in the 1960's and 1970's in Harlem and the South Bronx in New York City. The memories of playing street games of the most dangerous variety are detailed. Jumping roofs and gang fighting were his favorite street games.
There are accounts of his personal experiences of racism and violence inflicted upon him by the local police officers. The book does have some surprises and dark humor as well. But it is very honest and accessible by everyone.
A book tour is in the works. Check the website at http.www.yoltbooks.com to get any updates.
The joint program being developed is called the Y.O.L.T. "Youth Survival Project." The program will be a national help resource project based on a performance model. Life skills training, education and referrals to agencies and clients that support at risk youth issues will be a mainstay of the program. The book "You Only Live Twice" is central to the development of the project.
