Paw Print Productions (www.pawprintbooks2009.com) founder Deb Thompson began writing as a hobby but quickly turned that into a second career by writing and publishing her own books and the books of others. Thompson's books span the gamut from children's stories to WWI to humor and suspense.

Small Book Publisher Authors and Publishes Eight Books in the First Year
Wake Forest, NC, February 28, 2010 --(PR.com)-- What began as a way to keep busy quickly turned into a passion. Deb Thompson began her second career by writing a series of children's books about divorce, blended families, and celebrating individual differences. She's published two of these books to date but has a third ready to publish. Thompson then decided to publish a collection of letters from WWI that belong to her husband, Ted Hopkins; that work is entitled Letters From the Old Glory Box. Thompson descibes the book as a fascinating look at life during the WWI period as told through personal letters: Boys are being sent off to fight in the war, the Spanish Flu is claiming countless lives, and boys and girls are both vying for each other's affections. Thompson then undertook to write a humorous book, which she titled It's All About the Bike: The Chaotic Life of an Amateur Bicycle Racer's Girlfriend. While beginning on her third full-length book, Thompson met a fellow children's book author, James E. Bodenheimer of Stanley, North Carolina, and quickly set out to design, edit and publish James' four children's books: Frances and Her Shiny Chair, Katie's Kite, Bruno and the Porcupiney Pizza, and The Bravest Little Duck. James's stories are meant to be inspirational to young minds and hearts.

Thompson's current work, which she indicates is about 30% completed, is a collection of four novellets: The Dater, Breaking the Hippocratic Oath, Backspace Key and Adventures of the Oakley Boys; the first three are drama/suspense stories, a departure from her previous books.

Thompson has been able to get her books picked up by several major distributors in their on-line stores and in small independent bookstores but says it is very difficult for self-publishers to get their books into the major book store chains. Even getting a book into the grocery store book section or the airport book stores is nearly impossible because they only stock the best- sellers. Thompson says she is planning to attend several major book fairs this year in the hope of generating more interest in her books.
