Voices rise in a choral celebration of spring as the Adelphi Chorus presents a delightful selection of classical and modern pieces. Under the direction of Michael Hume with Adrienne Borbely at the piano, the afternoon will include Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Bernstein’s Chesterfield Psalms, Brahms’ Four Quartets, Op. 92, and folk songs of the world.

The Adelphi Jazz Ensemble offers a spring evening of hot jazz arrangements by Charles Mingus, Charlie Haden, Fred Hersch, Steve Swallow, Dave Holland, and McCoy Tyner. Dave Lobenstein leads this remarkable student ensemble. As the founder of The Dave Lobenstein Quartet, and The Dave Lobenstein Trio, Dave has performed at the JVC Jazz Festival, at the Manhattan Vocal Project, on Regis and Kathie Lee, and with Danny Holmes, and the Mike Fahn Quartet. The Dave Lobenstein Trio’s critically lauded CD, “Triple Play,” was released in 2003.

Black Box Theatre
An original cabaret creation is an Adelphi Theatre Department annual tradition. Digging Deep, Hanging On is a cabaret by acting majors Jessica Gray ’10 and Christopher Reynolds ’10. Through sketches, songs and monologues, Gray and Reynolds lead a student ensemble in a sometimes touching, sometimes funny, and always entertaining exploration of family and identity.

Springtime Madness: A Sprinkling of Gilbert and Sullivan with a Spritz of Mozart
Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 8:00 p.m.
Concert Hall
Under the direction of Anneliese von Goerken, and Midori Howell, The Adelphi Opera Workshop offers a frothy evening of operetta. Mozart’s The Impresario is a one-act singspiel, performed in its entirety, about silly squabbling sopranos. It was written around the time of Mozart’s better known The Marriage of Figaro. Excerpts from two light opera works, The Mikado and Iolanthe, by W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan will round out the evening.
