The 6 x 9 paperback cream in the Adventurers & Explorers category is available worldwide on book retailer websites such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble for a suggested retail price of $18.95. The Wildmons of Mississippi: A Story of Christian Dissent is also available in its 6 x 9 hardback w/ jacket edition for $24.95. The webpage at www.outskirtspress.com/thewildmonsofmississippi was launched simultaneously with the book's publication.

Better than Tobacco Road and The Grapes of Wrath, The Wildmons of Mississippi depicts the plight of the Southern farmer, who borrowed money every spring to make a crop and emptied his pockets in the fall to repay the loan. To some degree, the Lesters and the Joads illustrate the social conscience of their creators. The Wildmons – three generations of them — embody the triumph of flesh and blood, the fine detail of life itself as measured against the sparer world of fiction, however well-crafted. They struggle to keep the family farm.

After three years of drought, the lender forecloses. Both men are embarrassed and saddened by the transaction. It’s a great scene. The book is full of great scenes.

--Thomas H. Landess
Southern Literary Critic

From a humble upbringing and the unlikely ramparts of Tupelo, Mississippi, Don Wildmon has been slinging well-placed stones at the Goliaths of this age – major media, Hollywood and irresponsible corporate giants. It’s an incredible story. The Rev. Wildmon, his brother, Allen, and Don’s son Tim have unsettled many a boardroom with their straightforward tactic of alerting millions of people about how their consumer purchases have subsidized immorality – and how to stop it. Corporate sponsors dread getting a call from the American Family Association because they know they will have to deal with it.

The AFA under the Wildmons’ leadership has stayed true to its Christian roots and ignored the siren song of media acceptance.

Thus, it has grown into one of the most feared and hated entities on the “progressive Left’s” enemies’ list.

--Robert Knight, Senior Writer/Correspondent for Coral Ridge Ministries and Senior Fellow for the American Civil Rights Union
