Datalight Introduces Software Support for Micron’s 4-Gigabit 34-Nanometer NAND, Offering On-Die Error Correction Code

Datalight FlashFX Tera and Reliance Nitro now support Micron 34-nanometer NAND with on-die error correction code.

Bothell, WA, June 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Today Datalight announced support for Micron Technology’s 4-gigabit (Gb) 34-nanometer (nm) NAND flash with on-die error correction code (ECC) within its popular flash managers, including FlashFX Pro and FlashFX Tera.

Datalight’s flash drivers support flash devices through a NAND Technology Module (NTM) interface, allowing the addition of flash devices while isolating part specific code, which reduces project risk when changing flash devices. This flexibility is a key feature of FlashFX™ Tera, with pre-written support for over 300 flash parts including multi-level cell (MLC). It also works with virtually any NAND controller, and features wear leveling, bad block management, and background compaction for unrivaled performance and superior flash endurance. The new Datalight NTM for Micron’s 4Gb 34nm on-die ECC devices will be available at no additional charge to all existing licensees of the products.

"We’re pleased to work with Micron and provide software support for their on-die ECC NAND devices, offering a faster, easier path for our collective customers to integrate flash into their designs," said Ken Whitaker, director of engineering at Datalight. "We have worked with Micron for several years and the result of our collaboration is enabling our joint customers to take full advantage of the performance innovations designed in NAND flash."

"Micron’s on-die ECC device is a compelling solution for our customers as it allows processors, with only one bit of ECC, to capitalize on the cost-effectiveness of 34nm NAND," said Kevin Kilbuck, director of NAND marketing at Micron. "Another key feature of Micron’s on-die ECC device is its ease of integration, requiring customers to make minimal to no hardware changes. We look forward to continuing our work with Datalight, providing our joint customers with a more simplified and reliable flash design."

Reliance Nitro file system and FlashFX Tera flash media manager comprise the Datalight flash file system solution. Reliance Nitro was designed from the ground up for high performance applications. Dynamic Transaction Point™ technology provides 100% immunity from file corruption, even after unexpected system interruption. Embedded applications can benefit from faster boot times that remain consistent for the life of the product, regardless of disk size. Datalight flash file system products are also available on Linux and other operating systems.
