Enable America Supports "Art After Dark" Exhibit in Tampa

The Tampa Museum of Art will display a collection of art completed by people with disabilities on Friday, July 16, in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The event will also include a mural that celebrates the lives and contributions of people with disabilities.

Tampa, FL, July 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Enable America, a non-profit organization devoted to empowering people with disabilities to achieve independence through employment, is encouraging all to attend the Tampa Museum of Art this Friday evening for a tribute to the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Under the theme “Beyond the Ramp,” artwork created at the MacDonald Training Center as well as entertainment from people with disabilities will be featured.

The event is part of the museum’s “Art After Dark” series, and will also include the inspiring “Disability Mural,” a sensitive and evolving work of art that celebrates the lives and contributions of people with disabilities. The mural’s inclusion in the event is due to support from Louis Buccino of Citi, and Richard Salem, founder and CEO of Enable America.

“This event is further proof that there are no boundaries for people with disabilities,” Salem said. “Enable America has long understood that our workforce is stronger when it includes the talents of people with disabilities. Likewise, their artistic talents will also be apparent to all who join us this Friday evening.”

Those who attend the event will have the opportunity to add on to the Disability Mural, which originated ten years ago as a community effort to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the ADA. Following the display at the museum, the mural will travel to the MacDonald Training Center’s “Shattering Barriers” fundraising dinner at the Pepin Hospitality Center on October 7, and then be on display in Tampa at Citi Headquarters at 3800 Citibank Center.

Admission this Friday is $10 per person, free for museum members and includes a cash bar as well as access to all of the galleries and exhibits in the museum. The event is 8-11pm, and will include a keyboard performance by Jessica Tomlinson, a VSA (very Special Arts) Florida young artist of the year.
