Omaha, NE, September 11, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Omaha entertainers Mary Carrick and Todd Brooks will perform their award-winning show, “Some People: Songs from Broadway & Other Yummy Stuff” at the Barton Theatre, Glenwood, IA, on Saturday, September 18th at 7:30 p.m.

The cabaret-style show, hosted by the Mills Masquers, features a blend of heart and humor - a whimsical collection of great songs from Broadway, both classic and contemporary, including tender love ballads and showstoppers, memorable standards, and other lesser-known gems.

Complimentary wine and appetizers will also be served.

Known for her lush vocals, exquisite artistry, effervescence, and charm, Carrick pairs with Brooks on piano, who also joins her for a number of duets.

The duo’s style is true cabaret, with stories and factoids connecting the program. Songs include numbers by Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jule Styne, Stephen Schwartz, Jerry Herman, Frank Loesser, John Buccino, Jason Robert Brown, and many more.

“Todd and I are very excited to spend an evening in Glenwood sharing great music with the audience at the Barton Theatre,” said Carrick. “We have a wonderful program planned - songs many will know and others they may not, but that’s all part of the fun. We can’t wait!”

Adds Jeff DeYoung, President of the Mills Masquers Board of Directors, “We’re really looking forward to having Mary and Todd join us for this one-night only performance. They receive an enthusiastic response wherever they go and we know they have a great show in store for us. They are dynamic and delightful performers. We’re in for a treat.”

Carrick assures audiences that they will feel right at home with her and her counterpart. “The best thing about the cabaret format is it’s all about connecting with the audience and taking them along for the journey. Music reaches people in a very personal way, so that’s how we approach our show. It’s as if we’re all in the living room together. And, we’ll have some laughs along the way.”

Carrick and Brooks are touring artists with the Nebraska Arts Council. Both have performed extensively as singer-actors with theatres and professional arts organizations throughout the area, including Opera Omaha, Omaha Symphony, Omaha Community Playhouse, SNAP Productions, the Bellevue Little Theatre, and BroadStreet Theatre among many others. They were recognized with the Outstanding Cabaret Award from the Theatre Arts Guild in 2008, nominated in 2010, and are currently touring their cabaret show regionally. Brooks is also an accomplished director, music director, and arranger.

Tickets for “Some People” are $10 (general), $9 (seniors), $6 (ages 12 and under). Tickets may be reserved by calling (712) 527-3600 or purchased at the Glenwood State Bank.
