Roz Savage Ocean Rower and Environmental Campaigner, to Present at UCSF Wednesday September 29, 2010 at Noon. HSW 300.

In 2005, after 11 years as a management consultant, Roz Savage stepped out of her old life and entered the Atlantic Rowing Race as the only solo woman to ever compete in that race. After 103 days of storms, solitude and soul-searching, she arrived to an ecstatic welcome in Antigua. Her extreme transformation from office worker to ocean rower, described with humor and soul-baring honesty in her blogs, captivated a worldwide audience and is the subject of her book Rowing the Atlantic.

San Francisco, CA, September 12, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Ocean Rower and Environmental Campaigner, Roz Savage to Present in San Francisco at UCSF Parnasus Health Sciences West Building room 300 at noon Wednesday, September 29, 2010.

This event is free to attend.

A late comer to the life of adventure, Roz Savage is the first woman to row solo across the Pacific Ocean. She will be in San Francisco, her second home, to present her story of dreams, adventure and sustainablility.

In June 2010, Roz Savage became the first woman to row solo across the Pacific Ocean. A 6-week, 12-city speaking tour of the US and Canada aims to raise funds for her environmental mission and next adventure: a solo row across the Indian Ocean in 2011. If successful, she will be the first woman to row the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans.

Savage's documentary "Rowing the Atlantic" recently toured 34 countries with the Banff Mountain Film Festival. The event will feature video excerpts from her adventure documentary. The presentation includes exclusive footage shot during her voyages, featuring stormy weather, wildlife encounters, equipment failures, and the psychological highs and lows of an epic endeavor. She will talk about what inspired her to take up her oars in the fight for a cleaner, greener future. She applies the lessons learned in the crucible of the open ocean to the challenges facing us all at this pivotal moment in human history. She leads by example, emphasizing the power of the individual and his or her solitary actions in order to make a global difference. "My Pacific row is the perfect metaphor for how individuals have the power to make a difference. I could have sat under the Golden Gate Bridge and despaired, thinking that one oar stroke would make no difference. But if you take a million tiny actions, and add them all together, we can achieve anything." The event includes book signing (Rowing the Atlantic, Lessons Learned on the Open Ocean) and questions from the audience.

Together with her solo row across the Atlantic in 2005, she has rowed over 11,000 miles, taken 3.5 million oarstrokes, and spent cumulatively, 352 days alone at sea in a 23 foot rowboat.

Savage is an avid technology enthusiast and enjoys sharing her adventures through a variety of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube. She regularly blogs and records podcasts. Savage also uses EpicTracker, an interactive mapping system that enables people around the world to follow her on the ocean in real time.
