New Children’s Book by David Russell Transforms Reading Into a Magic Chair Ride; Released by Dog Ear Publishing

This book describes the author’s relationship with his grandson Aaron, who from an early age would climb onto Pop-Pop’s lap to read with him. Starting with picture books, the pair work up year after year through fairy tales, storybooks and “big people” magazines. Armed with glasses for Pop-Pop, they flip on the reading light, tilt back their “magic chair” and are off to a world filled with jungle animals, the desert, the ocean, working trains and outer space.

Los Angelos, CA, October 06, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Few things are cozier than reading aloud to a small child.

Pop Pop’s Magic Chair, published by Dog Ear Publishing, brings parents, grandparents and children 4 to 6 together for bedtime reading; the book is designed as a self-reader for children 6 to 8. Capturing the essence of the story with sure strokes of drawing genius, Frank Furlong’s images contribute a perfect, whimsical partnership with Russell’s words. Heart-warming and charming, this story shows the author’s obvious love of literature and poetry, as well as the special relationship he shares with his grandson.

Author David Russell and Art Director Frank Furlong first teamed up 30 years ago, initially producing animated TV spots, then a series of films for the Office of Education/HEW. Later, Russell became a principal in a Special Effects company making commercials for clients including the Pillsbury Doughboy, Speedy Alka Seltzer and Chuck Wagon, plus producing effects for “Fantasy Island” and NBC’s Bible series. Furlong’s busy career included work for “Sesame Street” and later the backgrounds for “Bobby’s World” and “Angry Beavers.” Now retired, David and Frank have teamed again with a goal to publish books of stories and poetry for children. “Pop-Pop’s Magic Chair” is their first.
