Palmetto Childproofing Participates in Child Safety Fair

The one day event allowed new moms to connect with local businesses and organizations offering information and resources on child safety.

Charlotte, NC, September 30, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Palmetto Childproofing Inc, a Charlotte based professional babyproofing company, recently participated in a child safety fair sponsored by the Gaston County Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group.

The one day event was held September 24, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Holly, NC and allowed new moms to connect with local businesses and organizations offering information and resources on child safety.

“Keeping a child physically safe is the most basic of all parental responsibilities,” said Mike Bost, vice president of Palmetto Childproofing Inc. “I’m so happy to see moms attend this event and educate themselves about ways to keep their child safe both inside and outside the home.”

During the event, Palmetto Childproofing addressed parents’ questions and concerns about babyproofing their home and distributed safety tips booklets with room by room advice on creating a safe home environment for babies and toddlers.

“One aspect of childproofing that parents with preschoolers often overlook,” said Bost, “is furniture safety.” According to Bost, approximately 19,000 children each year are treated in emergency rooms because of furniture tip-over accidents.

“Typically, these injuries occur when children climb onto, pull up on, or fall against furniture such as dressers, shelves, bookcases, televisions, and television stands,” said Bost. He strongly encourages parents with small children to secure these items with furniture straps or wall brackets to help prevent serious injury in the home.

Other participants at the safety fair included the Mount Holly Fire Department which offered information on fire safety, carbon monoxide alarms, and the next generation Tot Finder program. The Gaston County Sheriff’s Department was also on hand and distributed parental information on the sex offender registration program.

Safe Kids of Gaston County also participated and provided information on car seat safety, poison prevention, and gun safety. In addition, kids and parents were treated to ambulance tours courtesy of Gaston County Emergency Medical Services.

Bost said the safety fair was a successful and worthwhile event. He concluded, “I’m passionate about child injury prevention and welcome any opportunity to speak to parents about making their home safer for their little ones.”
