Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Robert E. Rubin to Lecture at Adelphi
Garden City, NY, October 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Adelphi University is pleased to host former U.S. Treasury Secretary Robert E. Rubin. Mr. Rubin will give a lecture entitled, “The Global Economic Outlook: Risks and Opportunities,” on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at 12:15 p.m. in the Ruth S. Hurley University Center’s Thomas Dixon Lovely Ballroom, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, New York. The event is sponsored by the University’s Hagedorn Lecture Series on Corporate Social Responsibility and presented by the Erna S. Lovely Endowed Lecture Series, and it is free and open to the public.
Mr. Rubin served as the first chairman of the National Economic Council from 1993 to 1995, after which President Bill Clinton appointed him as the nation’s 70th Treasury Secretary. Mr. Rubin’s history of activity in public affairs stretches back long before his time with the Clinton Administration; he spent a successful 26 year term with Goldman Sachs, at the conclusion of which he served as co-chairman and co-senior partner. From 1999 to 2009, Mr. Rubin served as a member of the board of directors at Citigroup, and as a senior advisor to the company. Mr. Rubin serves on the board of trustees of the Mt. Sinai Medical Center, is chairman of the board of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, the nation’s leading community development support organization, and in June 2007 was named co-chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is also a member of the Harvard Corporation and is among the founders of The Hamilton Project, an economic policy think tank housed at the Brookings Institute. His book In An Uncertain World: Tough Choices from Wall Street to Washington was a New York Times bestseller and was named one of Business Week’s ten best business books of the year.
Mr. Rubin graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College in 1960 with a degree in economics, received a L.L.B. from Yale Law School in 1964, and attended the London School of Economics. In 2008, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Miami, and in 2001, President Clinton presented him with the Presidential Citizens Medal.
