Pets for Patriots, Halo, Purely for Pets® and Freekibble Join Forces to Give Major Donation to Colorado Pet Food Bank

Pikes Peak Pet Pantry to receive 10,000 meals to help area families keep and care for their pets

Colorado Springs, CO, November 03, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Pets for Patriots, Inc., a not-for-profit that connects loyal shelter pets with our country's loyal service men and women, has inspired a significant donation of pet food to the Pikes Peak Pet Pantry. The donation of 10,000 meals of Halo Spot’s Stew, generously provided by Freekibble, will arrive prior to the start of the holiday season, a time when many people experience greater financial stress.

“We’re thrilled to work in partnership with Halo and Freekibble to help families in the Pikes Peak region who may be experiencing financial hardship,” says Beth Zimmerman, founder and executive director of Pets for Patriots. “This donation will mean that many of these families will not have to make the difficult choice to relinquish their pets because they could not afford to feed them.”

Halo, Purely for Pets®, co-owned by animal advocate Ellen DeGeneres, is a leading producer of natural pet care products and the official sponsor of Freekibble, created in 2008 by 14-year old Mimi Ausland when she was just 11 years old. Through fun, online dog and cat trivia games, Freekibble donates much-needed kibble to shelter pets around the country – over 4 million meals to date.

“Animal lovers understand we gain as much from caring for pets as they gain from our care,” says Halo’s David Yaskulka, vice president marketing communications. “We’re honored to help Pets for Patriots bring this gift to our nation’s veterans and military personnel, who are in turn rescuing homeless pets.”

“We are happy and indeed honored to support Pets for Patriots with this donation, and know the food is going to those that need it the most,” says Freekibble’s Kelly Ausland. “We’re thrilled to know that we’re helping our veterans keep their pets in the family where they belong... and that their pets will be enjoying such nutritious food!”

Pets for Patriots is showing its commitment to the community in other ways. The charity will march November 6 in the 2010 Colorado Springs Veterans Day Parade. “This is our first parade and we can’t think of a greater honor than to walk in lockstep with the men and women of the United States military,” says Zimmerman. “Knowing that we’ve inspired a donation to help many of these same individuals keep and care for their pets is a wonderful feeling.”
