Canadian and German Guests Visit International School of Arizona

The International School of Arizona (ISA) is hosting guests from Canada and Germany this week, giving students the opportunity to learn about other cultures first hand.

Scottsdale, AZ, January 26, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Canadian Consul, Doug Paterson will visit ISA with Sergeant Patrick Webb of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) on Thursday January 25.  Sergeant Webb will speak to students about and the RCMP.  He will explain what the RCMP is, give details about their uniforms and answer questions.  Sergeant Webb will attend the 55th annual Great Canadian Picnic which will be held at South Mountain Park on Saturday January 27.  This annual event is organized by the Calgary Committee of the Phoenix Sister Cities Commission.  ISA’s French Children’s Chorale will open the ceremony at the Great Canadian Picnic by singing the Canadian national anthem “Oh Canada” in French and English.

German Puppeteer, Uwe Spillman will be performing at the International School of Arizona on Friday January 26.  He will perform a puppet show in English and German to help launch ISA’s German Kindergarten planned for fall 2007.  ISA is one of 13 German immersion schools that Mr. Spillman will be visiting across the Western United States to introduce children to the German culture and language.  He will also perform at the International School of Tucson (IST) later in the day to help promote their German program that started earlier this month.  Mr. Spillman's visit to ISA and IST is being coordinated by the German Federal Office of Administration, Center for German Programs Abroad (Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen (ZFA)) in Los Angeles, California.  ISA has been working with Heinz Kohlmeier, the official German Language Consultant of ZFA to include a German Track in ISA’s international program offerings.  Representatives from ISA will also tour the IST facility in Tucson on Friday to learn about their immersion programs and build a cooperative alliance to support early foreign language learning in Arizona.

The International School of Arizona, founded in 1997, is a non-profit, private school emphasizing second language acquisition and bicultural learning through French, German and Spanish immersion.  ISA was founded in a spirit of bringing a different cultural awareness to children of ethnically and socially diverse backgrounds.  It is ISA’s mission to provide its students with the fundamental tools of learning while giving them the opportunity to discover a new language and a new culture. The school offers a total immersion (Pre-School and Elementary) program which follows European Educational Systems and Arizona State Standards.
