Luis Aponte's New Screenplay, "The Dark Diary of Columbus," Offers Unique View on American Slave Trade Origins

West Palm Beach, FL, January 17, 2011 --(PR.com)-- America’s history books may need an update. Screenwriter, Luis Aponte claims that a closer look into the personal diaries of Christopher Columbus and a Dominican priest reveal some of the most unforgivable crimes in American history. The Dark Diary of Columbus is a new screenplay that reveals the journal of Bartolome de Las Casas, a Catholic priest that sailed the seas with Christopher Columbus and played a pivotal role in introducing the black slave trade to the Caribbean islands. “This is the dark history our teachers never taught us in school,” says Aponte.

This is the Aponte’s screenwriting debut in Amazon Studio’s Screenwriting contest and has already received rave reviews for his alternative perspective of the voyages of Christopher Columbus. Amazon Studios is offering a total of $140,000 for the best movie and scripts of the month and $1.1 million for the Annual Awards. Winners for the December 2010 contests will be announced on January 27, 2011.
