Adelphi University Welcomes National Geographic Wildlife Photographer Ted Schiffman M.A. ’68
Garden City, NY, February 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Adelphi University is proud to host “Animal Portraits: Images of the Wild,” an exhibition of wildlife photographs by National Geographic Wildlife Photographer and Adelphi alumnus Ted Schiffman M.A. ’68, in the University Swirbul Library Gallery, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY through March 1, 2011. On February 9, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., a reception and book signing will take place for Mr. Schiffman’s latest intriguing publication Treefrogs: Prehistoric Survivors with a Global Message.
“Animal Portraits: Images of the Wild” features more than 25 portraits of wildlife animals. From the stoic regal lion, to a herd of elephants, close-up images of various cat eyes, and graceful flamingo. These images present the animal kingdom in all its glory.
Mr. Schiffman’s publication Treefrogs: Prehistoric Survivors with a Global Message includes more than 60 extraordinary color images of native treefrogs, a project spanning 25 years. The publication takes us on a photographic journey visiting the lilliputian world of these animals, living in the North American backyard habitats we share. Remarkable survivors from prehistoric times, these petite gymnasts and nighttime musicians are delivering a colossal environmental message. Tree frogs are an indicator species, a barometer of an environment’s health.
Mr. Schiffman has been a photographer for 40 years. He developed an interest and direction in color photography as a natural outlet for his many years of training and study as an artist. His entire collection of images illustrates not only his fine artistic and photographic abilities, but also a love and respect for the inherent beauty of nature’s many subjects. He has exhibited at numerous galleries, institutions, and universities. His prints are collected privately and by institutions and corporations throughout the United States and Europe. He received his M.A. from Adelphi University in 1968.
The Swirbul Library Gallery is open Sunday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. For more information about this and other upcoming art exhibitions, please visit http://www.adelphi.edu/artmuseum/exhibitions/.
