Vancouver, BC, Canada, April 01, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Oral health education is vital to today’s healthcare system. Responding to this critical need, CulturedCare, a division of Prairie Naturals, has signed an independent oral healthcare professional to work with consumers, healthcare professionals, retailers and their own sales team to provide unbiased information related to oral health.

Melinda Ferguson-Robertson, BSc, RDH, BBA, MPH(c), joined the team this month, following a recent presentation on oral probiotics at Vancouver’s largest tradeshow, the Pacific Dental Conference. She holds both business and science degrees from St. Francis Xavier University, and received her restorative dental hygiene diploma from Dalhousie School of Dentistry. Currently she is working on a Masters in Public Health Administration. Melinda is a dental hygienist, educator and publisher whose communication skills help bridge the communication gap between consumer and professional.

“Given the growing evidence supporting the connection between oral health and systemic health, and considering bacteria’s increasing resistance to antibiotics, this educational initiative is essential,” states Ms. Ferguson-Robertson.

Prairie Naturals’ oral health product, CulturedCare Probiotic Gum with BLIS K12, is the first oral probiotic made and sold in Canada. Researched in part at the University of British Columbia, it is considered a perfect fit for the dental profession, given its positive impact on the oral bacterial environment - improving gum health, reducing caries and fighting bad breath. Backed by more than 20 years of research, the BLIS strain has been shown to control the bacteria responsible for strep throat, earaches, upper respiratory infections and sinus infections in addition to its oral healthcare benefits.

CulturedCare Probiotic Gum with BLIS K12 was launched in Canada in March 2010 and has been well received. Made in British Columbia, the product is vegan, and each piece of chewing gum contains millions of active colony-forming probiotics that do not require refrigeration.

Recent research from Otago University in New Zealand included studies with pregnant women, nursing mothers and infants, attesting to its safety and efficacy. A therapeutic dose consists of chewing a single piece of gum, once a day, for 5-10 minutes. Oral bacteria are infectious and transferrable. CulturedCare BLIS K12 gum provides oral health protection for the whole family.
